Organs Are Not Pianos
Organs are not pianos, and the differences matter on removal day. Console, pedalboard, bench and speakers are often separate assemblies, and an organ that looks modest in a lounge room can come apart into several heavy pieces — or refuse to come apart at all.
Hammond Organs and Leslie Speakers
Tonewheel organs are the extreme case. A Hammond B-3 or C-3 weighs around 193 kg in a cabinet barely wider than a desk, and its Leslie speaker is a second 60 kg unit that travels separately. That density catches out general removalists who judge weight by size.
Older Reed and Electronic Organs
Older electronic and reed organs bring a different problem: veneered cabinets and glued joints decades past their best. They cannot be lifted by the keyboard shelf or the music desk, and the pedalboard usually has to come off before the instrument will pass a doorway.

What Comes Apart, and What Does Not
Every organ removal starts with the same question: what actually comes apart, and what does not. A spinet organ may separate into console and pedalboard in minutes. A tonewheel Hammond is a single sealed cabinet that must be moved whole, on its side, on a skid.
Church Consoles Are Documented First
A two-manual church console may need its cabling documented and labelled before anything is disconnected, so it can be reassembled exactly as it was.
Top-Heavy and Awkwardly Balanced
Weight is rarely the whole difficulty. Organs are top-heavy and awkwardly balanced, with most of the mass in the upper cabinet and very little footprint underneath. Tilted carelessly on a staircase, an organ will go over far sooner than a piano of the same weight.
