Moving Upright Pianos: What Shapes the Cost
When moving upright pianos, three things decide the cost: the size of the piano, the distance between the two addresses, and the access at each end. A small upright weighs around 220 kg, a tall upright is heavier again, and every step, landing or narrow doorway adds time and care.
That is why we ask for a few details before quoting: the make and height of the piano, both addresses, your preferred date, and photos of any stairs or tight corners. With that information you receive a fixed cost quote, with insurance included, before you book.
How We Move an Upright Piano
- A team of three full-time piano removalists on every job, never subcontractors.
- The piano is wrapped in heavy blankets and stays upright on a piano trolley.
- A 1-tonne wide platform hydraulic tail lift raises it into a fully enclosed, waterproof truck.
- Ratchet straps hold it in place for the drive, and GPS tracking follows the truck.
- Fully insured from pick-up to final placement in the new room.
After the Move
An upright piano needs time to adjust to a new room. We do not tune pianos, so give it two to four weeks to settle, then book your tuner. To read more about how upright pianos are built, see the upright piano section on Wikipedia.
